Aileen’s Approach to Nutritional Therapy
I’ve been trained to use a patient centred body systems approach. I will spend time with you, listening to your health history and looking at the interactions between genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors (such as sleep, relaxation, exercise, movement, nutrition and stress) which may be influencing your symptoms and health conditions.
I love to analyse a client’s case to help identify the potential underlying reasons for their current health status. I find that being able to give a client an understanding of what is going on and what may have triggered their symptoms can assist them in implementing their health optimisation plan.
My training has led me to appreciate:
- That every person is biochemically unique.
- That there is an interconnection between internal physiological factors.
- That an individual’s health may be influenced by their mental, emotional and spiritual health.
- That health should be considered as a positive vitality not merely the absence of disease.
- That a person’s individual preferences, needs, and values must be central to their personalised health optimisation programme.
- That an empowered client, able to take ownership of their own wellbeing will be able to make sustained lifestyle changes in order to improve their health.
People ask me what is your philosophy to YOUR personal nutrition?
I’ve had several “ah ha” moments along my journey, however I can encapsulate them as
“Eating good clean nutritious food is key however just as important is having all your biochemical processes and body systems working optimally. I often think of it as a car analogy – you need good fuel and also must ensure your engine is working correctly and your bodywork is cared for.
I choose to eat fresh and unprocessed foods – no complicated or difficult to read labels for me! I am particular about where my food is grown, farmed, packaged – it all has an impact. I eat a high level of raw and lightly cooked plant foods – vegetables, nuts and seeds and moderate amounts of fruit, eggs, fish and meat. I love creating and drinking fresh vegetable juices too – I’ve even been known to take my juicer on holiday! So many people have the impression that eating healthily is boring so my favourite thing to do is to invite a bunch of friends over for a sumptuously delicious meal that is undercover healthy and I’m thrilled when everyone asks for the recipes because they’ve loved the food so much!
For me it’s all about moderation and balance and discovering out what is right for you. I do have my “food principles” and there are some foods you won’t find in my fridge and certain food establishments I will never visit! I will always respect and support your ethical and cultural principles around your food choices, and I’ll help you find ways to enhance your nutrition and lifestyle.
